Women's Initiative for Self-Help (WISH)
In 2002, Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation helped support the Women's Initiative for Self-Help (WISH), a CARE project that strives to improve the lives of impoverished women and children in India. WISH teaches participants about agriculture, natural resource development, bio-intensive kitchen gardening, local food processing, and how to improve nutrition and health.
With Weyerhaeuser's help, the WISH project was able to assist Ranchi, a community in the northern state of Bahir, by:
- Developing 500 nutritional gardens
- Improving agricultural land management practices
- Generating alternative-income opportunities
- Providing non-formal education for children and illiterate women
- Teaching crop diversification
